Bromyard is a town in the Bromyard and Winslow civil parish in the county of Herefordshire, England. It is situated in the valley of the River Frome. The 2011 census gives a population of approximately 4,500.
It lies near to the county border with Worcestershire on the A44 between
Leominster and Worcester. Bromyard has a number of traditional half timbered buildings, including some of the pubs, and the parish church dates back to Norman times. For centuries, there was a thriving livestock market. The town is twinned with Athis-de-l'Orne, Normandy.
Designed with disabled anglers in mind and equipped with casting platforms, the lake is restocked frequently on a 'put and take' basis and offers rainbow and brown trout fishing with an average stock weight of 2lbs but with fish to 5lbs regularly coming to the net.
In addition to the fishing there is a centrally-heated fishing lodge where anglers can enjoy a selection of hot and cold drinks, hire tackle at a cost of £5.00 per day, or stock up on flies and lures.
Staff at the lodge are happy to give help and advice on the best fly to use, depending on the season, water temperature, weather conditions and fish activity. There are also on-site toilets which are suitable for disabled anglers.
The Local & Family History Centre at 5, Sherford Street, Bromyard is the headquarters of the Society. It houses exhibition space, a shop, research room and archive.
It is run entirely by volunteers and receives no regular local authority financial support. The building was purchased by the Society in 1999 and converted to its present use with assistance of a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The centre was opened for public use on May 1st 2003 and has been an overwhelming success and widely admired for the range of heritage services being provided on a voluntary basis under one roof.
